MMAE’s initial educational event, was a day-long event, held in partnership with the Charlotte Area Health Education Center (AHEC). It examined the stigma attached to mental health disorders focusing on recognition of mood disorders.
Kay Redfield Jamison, Ph.D., professor of Psychiatry at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and author of An Unquiet Mind, served as keynote speaker.
Breakout sessions for participants included:
- Cultural Issues in Psychiatry and Mental Health – Annelle Primm, MD, MPH – Director of Minority and National Affairs for the American Psychiatric Association
- Adolescent Depression: Elizabeth Kastelic, M.D., Asst. Professor of Psychiatry at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine
- Mental Health in the Work Place: Stephen E. Sammons, MED. LPC, PHR – Management Consultant with Corporate Health International
